Judging by the edgey yet svelte styling on the 2010 Genesis Coupe, it appears Hyundai is finally making a concerted effort to rid themselves of the "good value but really boring" image they've cultivated since arriving in Canada some 25 years ago. But make no mistake, the Genesis Coupe is still a relative bargain against its intended competitors, namely the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger and reborn 2010 Chevy Camaro. This car, the first true sports car from the Korean automaker, brings forth a few advancements, including the use of a rear-drive platform and a turbo-charged engine, to name just two. The platform is shared with its namesake, the Genesis sedan, although you wouldn't know from just looking. Where the sedan's body is a case study in inoffensiveness, the coupe is bold and overtly muscular, especially the angry-looking front-end with its squintey headlights. Power comes from a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-litre four making 210 hp, or an optional 3.8-litre V6 with 306 hp. Transmissions are either a 5-speed manual (6-speed on 2.0T GT models), or an optional ZF-sourced 6-speed automatic on either. The autobox has a shift-it-yourself mode complete with the requisite paddle-shifters behind the steering wheel. Link to: Videos | Photo Gallery |
